Unlockable Content

Unlockable content adds real-world value to the NFT outside of the digital token value. In a nutshell, unlockable content provides exclusive stuff and services that can only be accessed by the NFT holder.

For artists, unlockable content is an opportunity to respect and honor the collectors of their NFTs by offering them something original that has value in the real world. In that way, unlockables create the effect of enlarged rarity and demand for NFTs.

For businesses, unlockable content is an important tool for customer loyalty. The ability to provide customers with exclusive content or information not available publicly provides all sorts of opportunities to excite customer communities and create a feeling of belonging.

Inside your Blue Marble account (if you haven't already yet, sign up for a free account) click "Create NFT" in the menu. Make sure to read our guide on how to create your first NFT if this is your first time.

In the Create NFT Editor, click the tickbox next to Unlockable Content:

You will see the "Cover image" file upload box appear:

1. NFT File - This is the file to be protected and only available to NFT holders
2. Cover image - This is the image file that will be seen publicly by everyone. It could be a lower quality version of the protected file or a something completely different.

This is all that is required to create Unlockable Content 🎉 - you create the rest of the NFT using the standard process.

So what is the experience for people who view your NFT? 

1. Non-holders of your NFT

For anyone who is not a holder of your NFT, they will be able to view the Cover Image - but access to the key NFT file is locked with an explanation why they cannot access it:

2. Holders of your NFT

Anyone who holds your NFT - whether they purchased it or were gifted it - will see a green padlock and an active link that takes them to your protected content.
